Is
it hereditary?
There is no specific
proof to say people inherit something from their parents that predisposes them
to develop lupus. Some people are
more susceptible to lupus. In the
present there isn’t any genetic testing that can prove who is susceptible or
not.
Where
is genetic research being done?
Linkage studies are being researched to evaluate
families that have more than one member with lupus. One hopes to identify the gene or genes that are responsible
for the disease. The resources
will eventually be pooled, but there is benefit from multiple independent
efforts. Multiple studies are
encouraging participation.
