Is lupus included in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)?

Most illnesses are included in the disabilities act since the writing is written in broad terms.  More help is acquired if you contact the job accommodation network to see how an individual work situation is required by the employer and employee to be in compliance with the law.

The job accommodation network is a free service of the U.S. Department of labor it provides information about job accommodations and the employability of people with disabilities.

 Is there a list of insurance companies that cover lupus?

 Financial Assistance

Can the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) provide financial assistance to individuals in need?

The LFA does not provide assistance for individuals in need they do however they can refer you to other agencies or organizations that could help individuals in need of assistance.  Please contact the nearest LFA chapter as they may be able to assist you in locating any local resources.

Does the LFA help pay for prescriptions medications?

Pharmaceutical research and the manufacturers association may provide assistance for paying for prescription medications.  They sponsor a program that provides prescription medications free to physicians whose patients might not have access to necessary medications.  There is certain criteria for the plan of coverage and if criteria is met then the prescriptions are sent to the doctors then they will give them to you.

Does the Lupus Foundation of America have a scholarship program to help students with lupus pay for college/training?

LFA does not help fund students with lupus including scholarships or any form of financial aid for college or training. 

    The LFA has a Gina Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowships for Research Related to Lupus Erythematosus. This program is designed to encourage young science majors to participate in lupus related research under the supervision of an established investigator. Preference is given to applicants who have already earned a college degree. The application deadline is February 1st of each year and awards are announced each April.

 Can people with lupus qualify for Social Security Disability?

Disability benefits is granted only if the person with lupus is unable to perform gainful employment of any kind.
